Mountain Solidarity Black Lung Association Fundraiser

The West Virginia IWW is raising funds for the Black Lung Association (BLA). The BLA was founded after the events of the 1968 Farmington Mine Disaster, one of the worst coal mining disasters in the country in the 20th century. The BLA is an advocacy, member-led organization that assists miners, retirees, and their survivors understand and apply for their black lung benefits. Additionally, the BLA provides advocacy and leadership support throughout the coalfields and their members have worked on a variety of legislation and policies that benefit active and retired coal miners. All proceeds from our Mountain Solidarity Zine collection campaign will be donated to the national Black Lung Association.

Our Mountain Solidarity zines cover the history of central Appalachia’s often forgotten or untold organizing past through a discussion of its race, class, and gender characteristics.
